They didn't have my credit card number on file. Once I gave them a credit card number, they were perfectly happy to fill the prescription. So, I conclude that all of the other stuff was smoke and mirrors. No concern for my health, my financial security, or my safety--just making sure I wasn't going to scam them out of the cost of blood pressure medication. I joke that I believe electricity is magic, but I can re-wire a lamp; and I often rue my fear of circular saws, but I can do minor carpentry with hand tools, and a drill.

Too bad our Michigan Merit Curriculum doesn't require "Emergency Household Repair" so that our kids learn how to turn off the water supply, use plungers, reset or replace a fuse in a circuit panel/fuse box, put out kitchen fires, sew buttons and patches, etc. It would be great to see our kids express confidence that they could do "first responder" repairs, at least until a true "pro from Dover" could completely restore whatever broken household item to its former working state.

Of course, I come from a generation that still orders replacement parts to repair broken household goods, and can't understand the idea of throwing slightly broken items away.Kathy (Kathleen) Kosobudhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15691399423647170614noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35630092.post-7128179678987062752011-05-19T05:07:37.850-04:002011-05-19T05:07:37.850-04:00WOW! Excellent piece Kathleen!!!

I know as a student myself, it was drafting classes that finally clicked on the light bulb to help me understand algebra are geometry.

It seems that the "C" in the MMC, (Michigan Merit Curriculum), has come to stand for "Courses", as in Michigan Merit COURSES.

Plus with the push toward so much standardization in the core "courses" it becomes almost impossible for CTE to integrate "the core" curriculum into CTE classes in order for students to receive core credit.

I hope people realize the importance of CTE before it is too late. But the sad fact is with all the "reforms" pushing for everyone to go to college, CTE is almost a four letter word.

Part of me is tempted to create a button that says "College is for people that can't handle CTE".MisterRogershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02721896921426845544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35630092.post-38419632428452425032011-05-14T22:12:45.139-04:002011-05-14T22:12:45.139-04:00@ Pam: I sent the link to you because I seem to b...@ Pam: I sent the link to you because I seem to be in mourning. Your energy and kindred remarks on FB remind me that I am not alone in my feelings of injustice.

I'm sorry that you've been another casualty of the "everything is mine" attitude that the banks seem to have taken. Mortgage modification, in my opinion is a huge joke (gallows-type) perpetrated on trusting voters who thought that the bank bailout would actually be a public good. I've lost a lot of trust, along the way, but have hope that these horrendous experiences will breed a political shift in our young people to remember that "together we are better". This applies to a whole host of situations.Kathy (Kathleen) Kosobudhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15691399423647170614noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35630092.post-87526175584036586822011-05-14T20:33:20.123-04:002011-05-14T20:33:20.123-04:00Kathy, I totally understand and respect your posi...Kathy, I totally understand and respect your position. When I read this, I kept thinking "Someone has been reading my journal!" I could have written the same things myself - except that my kids are 17 & 20, and I am the one, recently divorced, who was going through the "loan modification/foreclosure process."

It is exhausting many days. But exhilirating on others. Either way, I seem to have enough energy left to get EXTREMELY ANGRY at the faschist maneuvers being perpetrated on the people of our state and many others. I literally CANNOT BE QUIET about this... even if it ultimately costs me my beloved job at the MDE... IT IS SIMPLY TOO WRONG.

If you need to block my rants and settle yourself, I will understand. I wish you the best, and hope the same for your family. I have read your post and feel so similar things that it is disturbing.

I really would love to exchange ideas with you, if possible, but I don't know how.
